The Unity of the Proposition - Soames
Scott Soames discusses Frege's and Russell's (confused) attempts to solve the problem he calls "the unity of the proposition". He then attempts to get at the heart of the problem, and sketch a solution. This paper was especially interesting for me because (i) I had to read it for class, and (ii) Soames's solution is very similar to a solution I developed in response to a problem for platonism in the philosophy of mathematics.

Cudworth and Normative Explanations - Mark Schroeder
Schroeder discusses a problem with the fact that ethical theories apparently tell us, not only what we ought to do, but why we ought to do it.

Craziness and Metasemantics
John Hawthorne discusses a problem that I had never really thought about (not that he's the first to discuss it). How do we rule out crazy interpretations of our utterances, that nevertheless come out true?

Bayesians Cannot Ignore Even Very Implausible Theories
Fitelson and Thomason argue, in a nice short paper, that a Bayesian account of scientific evidence cannot ignore implausible hypotheses if it is to be an adequate theory of scientific reasoning.
Warning: There is a some math in the paper.

a matter of principle
Great joint review of Dancy's Ethics without Principles and Ridge and McKeever's Principled Ethics by Mark Schroeder. It's forthcoming in Nous. If you are ever deeply puzzled what this debate is really about, this review is a good place to start sorting out the mess.

What is Democracy?
[Richard Chappell, draft.] I claim that rule by the majority is not sufficient to qualify as rule by the people. This raises the question: what more is required? Rule by *all* the people is one obvious, if rather stringent, suggestion. Another intriguing possibility is that 'the people' in general may – in the right conditions – comprise a corporate agent who rules.

Rejecting Ethical Deflationism - Jacob Ross
Ross discusses, and rejects, views which attempt to undermine the importance of ethical questions. Interestingly, Ross argues that, even if we have no reason to disbelieve these views, we still have reason to reject them.

Foundationalism for modest infinitists
From Certain Doubts; here is the abstract:
"Infinitists argue that their view outshines foundationalism because infinitism can, whereas foundationalism cannot, explain two of epistemic justification’s crucial features: it comes in degrees and it can be complete. I present four different ways that foundationalists could make sense of those two features of justification, thereby undermining the case for infinitism."

Evolution Without Naturalism - Sober
Given reader's interest in Plantinga's arguments concerning the relationship between evolution and naturalism, I thought this fairly recently posted paper by Sober might be of interest. He discusses the logical and evidential relationship between evolutionary theory and particular metaphysical claims about supernatural entities.

Modus Ponens Revisited
[Author: David Etlin; PDF] In his well-known paper, "A Counterexample to Modus Ponens," McGee presented a set of examples that appear to indicate that modus ponens does not hold as a valid rule for all natural language conditionals. Etlin considers several common responses to this, arguing that they fail, and suggests that the examples identify a distinction between indicative and subjunctive conditionals.
