A Quick Guide to Sympoze

There are two major ways to participate in the Sympoze community - submitting links and voting on them. Both are very easy.

Submitting Links

If you find a link to something you like, submit it. No matter where you are on the site there will always be two submit story links. One in the navigation bar on the left. And a big button link in the top left.

Note: We are in the process of adding features that make link submission even easier. We currently have two other ways to submit links that are really easy. First, the Sympoze This! - Easy Submit Button in your browser toolbar. For more details on the Easy Submit Button click here. Second, you can submit links directly from Google Reader.

Voting Up Links

In any section, there are three places to find links to vote up. Recently submitted links that don't have enough votes to make the front page appear in the tabs labeled "Upcoming" in each section. Links that have received enough votes to be promoted to the front appear in the tabs labeled "Published" in each section. Links that sat around in the Upcoming section for a long time and didn't receive enough votes to be Published will appear in the "Archived" sections of each tab. Make sure you check out all three tabs to see if there is anything worth looking at that you might have missed.

Finding Out What's Popular

Finding out what's popular in a discipline is even easier. Simply browse through the academic disciplines up at the top of the page. The tabs at the top of each discipline page will let you see what's hot, right now, in the past 7 days, in the past month, or even the past year.

More Features

We have some other cool features that make Sympoze even easier to use. Check out our Features Page to learn more. We'll be adding more features as the site grows, so stay tuned.

Thanks to John Basl, we also have a more detailed PDF [PDF File] that introduces new users to some of the core features of Sympoze. Thanks John!

NOTE At the moment, while we are working on the site, anyone can vote anything up. However, we eventually want each section to reflect the opinions of the experts in that area. That's what makes this site distinctive from other social bookmarking sites. To achieve this we will eventually put some kind of restriction in place. We want to work out kinks in the site and take some time to determine how best to implement a restriction. For now, feel free to vote anything up that you think is of general interest or related to your area (even if it is not labeled that way - and go ahead and err on the side of voting).
