I would like to welcome Justin Donhauser to the ranks of Buffalo Philosophy contributors. Justin is currently a PhD student in the philosophy department at the University at Buffalo (SUNY). His chief interest is in analytic metaphysics, particularly the ontology of spacetime and dimensionality. In his off time he is a drummer/guitarist/vocalist for the local band Stockholm. I discovered this afternoon that Rouledge has updated the information on the textbook I'm editing for them.  The book is currently being typeset.  I'll be correcting tha page proofs this fall, and it is scheduled to be released on 16 January.

Discussion of some well known stuff in philosophy of mind (e.g. property dualism of different forms) combined with a discussion of whether or not dualist views are consistent with our best scientific theories. Not much new but if the discussion gets going this promises to be interesting.

I just finished a draft of a paper that begins the task of constructing a moral theory of state sovereignty meant to facilitate the protection of individual human rights. I try to do three things in this paper. First, I try to work out an account of thoroughly non-ideal, or realistic, moral theorizing. I then use this account to evaluate Allen Buchanan’s (2004) theory of recognitional legitimacy, concluding that the view isn’t realistic enough to provide practical political guidance.

Great post on an alternative framework for teaching phil of sci by focusing on problems in the special sciences rather than general issues in the philosophy of science such as realism, explanation, etc.
